You may find yourself feeling out of your element during a home inspection. If that’s the case, today’s guide is meant to catch you up on what you need to know about the process. Here are five questions that you should not hesitate from asking your home inspector.
First and foremost, don’t be afraid to ask the inspector “What does that mean?” when doing a walk-through. It’s likely that your home inspector may use some terms you’re unfamiliar with. If that’s the case, ask them to break it down for you. This is not uncommon by any means, and they will appreciate you asking for elaboration. Following this, you should follow-up in asking how detrimental something is. This facet is important as some issues may be minor and not something to worry about.
If there’s something you’ve noticed in your home but are unsure if it’s an issue or not, point it out to your inspector. Some people may find themselves nervous of doing this as they may feel they’re only hurting themselves, but that’s not the case. In addition, if there’s something in your home that you don’t know how to maintain such as an HVAC, boiler, etc., ask your inspector and they’ll likely be able to tell you about it. Lastly, ask the inspector what their biggest concern about your property is. These concerns may be relevant either in the present day, or ten years down the road. Regardless, it will offer you some insight into what you should keep an eye out for.
